GP Training
Riverside Medical Centre is a training practice. This means that we have registrar GPs (ST2 & 3) who are doing their specialist GP training. They spend up to a year at the practice from August. We also have FY2 doctors who are with us for 4 months starting in April, August and December. All the doctors are qualified and are just going through the final years of their training under the supervision of the GP partners at the practice.
We do appreciate that this does mean that you may not see the same doctor all the time but, if we did not have these additional doctors, we just would not be able to cope with the demand, so please bear with us.

Practice Management
The practice manager is responsible for all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The practice manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care.
Administration
Reception
Receptionists provide an important link for patients with the practice and are your initial contact point for general enquiries. They can provide basic information on services and results and direct you to the right person depending on your health issue or query. Receptionists make most of the patient appointments with the GPs and nurses. They also perform other important tasks such as issuing repeat prescriptions and dealing with prescription enquiries, dealing with financial claims, dealing with patient records and carrying out searches and practice audits.
Secretaries
The secretarial team play an essential part in the running of the practice. They make sure that all the referrals that the doctors want to make get to the hospital/consultant concerned and they also make many appointments.
Pharmacists
Community Nurses
Our district nurse visits the surgery regularly. She, or one of her colleagues, is always able to be contacted through the hospital when needed by any of our patients in the community.
Health Visitors
A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing. The team are based in Hockley and can be contacted on 0300 2470013.
